Trail Pants (Shorts)

This review is about the Tail Pants, but everything applies to the Shorts as well.

I love these pants (shorts). I have a typical athletic build, and not the tallest person. The fit in the length is good, I have enough room in the calf, Thigh and Hip, that they are not baggy loose or super tight. They move well as you pedal and ride, the knee pads are seem less. The fabric does not bind or restrict in any manner. I have gone down a few times and the material held up, no rips.

The pockets are actually functional and I appreciate that. One holds my truck key/pass and the other with the D3O for the phone. Once I am riding, I forget about them.

Great pants, proper fit, quality garment. Thank you!

Trail pants

Best pants I’ve owned to date. Pockets are right where you want them. Waist is nice and stretchy and adjustable. Slightly on the tighter side for a 32 but plenty of stretch to make up for it.

Akta Pants

The pants fit snug, the D3 pocket for my phone works fantastic. The dirt just flows off them. Couldn’t be happier with my selection.

Favorite pants

These pants are by far the most comfortable I have had. They also look great while having the best durability I have experienced.

Deee-eee-Ecent!

I like the styling of the pant. Not too loose where they will get stuck or snagged on something. Not too tight they look like leggings. Lots of room to adjust the waistband and zippers are top quality.

My two gripes. First the vents. On occasion you will be in a position the vents are not against your skin and they will catch a draft which you instantly feel as the breeze goes up your thigh. That’s nicely cooling, but I wish it happened more often. Perhaps by placing the vents in an area where the pants moved closer to then away from your skin to create some kind of air pressure differential to move air in there.

Second is the ankle cuffs. The inseam is plenty long. I love that. But there is no zipper or elastic/stretch panel in the ankle so it is super easy to burst the stitching going over your heel while taking them off when they are sweaty and you are tired and clumsy.

This means you need to put your socks on before you put your pants on or you won’t be able to pull the pants up high enough to not have your socks in a mess around your ankles.

I dock one star for the ankles and .5 for the vents for a total rating of 3.5, rounding down for the price given the lack of ankle panels/zippers they are not a great value compared to competitors offering around the same price with the ankle solution.

Will wear them till they are blown up but hope the next version addresses the ankle issues. If so I will buy again.

Last note, absolutely a pain to get sap out of them, a make a little synthetic pant noice when you walk as you might expect. No clue why but they are…… a little plasticy feeling.
