I'll start by saying I've been using the 7iDP Sam Hill pads for the past several years. I'm sure anyone looking at these is familiar. These are a step up in every way, with regards to comfort, craftsmanship, and attention to detail with design.
First off, the fit - The size chart was spot on for me. They're evenly snug from top to bottom (no part too tight or too loose), without any pinch points or bunching up, especially behind the knee. Each sleeve is side-specific, being tailored to the asymmetry of each leg. The upper band with the inner silicone is really wide, providing tons of grip to prevent them from sliding down, and the calf strap adds that extra bit of security, without being overly tight. The inner material is all super soft and comfy as well.
As for the finish and details - I took a scrutinous look all the way around each pad, and the stitching was perfect everywhere. The panels are all laid out very well, and I don't feel stitching against my leg anywhere inside the pads.
Surrounding the D3O insert pocket is a padded rib, which keeps you from feeling the edges of the pad. This is a big one for me, as even though I've used the Sam Hills for years, I've always had to put Medipore tape on each side of my knees, as the stiff, sharp outer edges of the insert would cause chafing. In addition to this, the D3O insert used here is significantly more flexible than the SAS-TEC insert used in the Sam Hills, making them way more comfy and easy to move around in. The insert opening is also below the knee, rather than directly over the knee cap, so there's no seam over moving body parts, and that opening is super stretchy, so you don't feel like you're going to rip it every time you remove/insert the pads for washing.
Also another small detail - With the lower opening of the sleeve, the gripper material is only on the back 180° (calf side), with none being on the front 180°. This sounds pretty minor, but I've had other knee pads before with gripper material up front, and this would cause chafing, as that front edge of the lower sleeve wants to get pulled up every time you bend your knee. Really, what I'm getting at here is that even the very smallest of details were considered in the design of these pads.
To confirm all of this, I wore these knee pads yesterday for 8.5 hours, with 6 of those hours spent pedaling (68 miles and 12,100 feet on my Levo), and I didn't think about them even once. They stayed perfectly in place, never needing a single adjustment, and biggest of all, no chafing! This is the first pair of knee pads I've ever used with no chafing, especially after a ride that long. They simply disappeared on my legs, while giving me the confidence of knowing I wouldn't have to get my knee stapled back together (again) if I took a digger.
These are definitely my new go-to pads!
