Ben Wallace

North Vancouver, BC

Ben is a high energy shredder from North Vancouver that means business on the bike. Ben has typically been known as a Downhill Racer but in recent years is making a name for himself as one of the more stylish downhill riders to come out of Canada. Someone who takes his training almost as serious as his riding, Ben is a very determined rider and will be accomplishing big things in no time.

How would you define your riding style?

Fast, smooth, stylish, couple skids here and there.

How and when did you get into riding?

When I was a kid my parents were both super into riding and all I wanted to do was follow in their footsteps. Once I was big enough I eventually started getting taken on rides and I have been riding ever since.

What do you do in your down time?

I love watching hockey, basketball and football as well as a few other sports here and there. Always been a big sports fan.

Do you pull any inspiration from any other sports, arts etc?

I am a big fan of a lot of high level athletes in other sports as I love seeing their drive and work ethic. Watching guys like Myles Garrett (nfl) and Lebron James (nba) train and prepare for their sport is pretty amazing and inspiring to watch.

What are your aspirations as a rider?

I honestly just want to be known as a fast and stylish rider that is super fun to watch. I definitely still have some big racing goals down the line but right now I am just hoping to create some content that highlights the style and speed I have on my bike and hopefully that get's people stoked!

What riders do you look up to?

Always was a big Stevie Smith fan growing up, nothing more exciting than watching him race and push the limits for Canadian Downhill. Still looking up to him today.

Have you been through any injuries/adversity?

The last few years I have struggled with ongoing concussion symptoms that have caused a lot of time off the bike. I have learned a lot about taking a step back and really focusing on your health. It's a frustrating process but a process I feel like I am finally starting to get through.

Do you have any results or projects that you are proud of?

I think my proudest moment was finishing 7th at the La Bresse, France World Cup in junior in 2018. It was my first top 10 result and it felt like so much hard work had finally paid off. Pretty special day.

What are your plans for 2023?

For 2023 I am planning on doing a few really cool video projects that I am really excited about as well as a few select events. I am also finishing my last year of university and I will be graduating in August of 2023! Hopefully there will be lots of good laps with the Akta team as well!
